M4 crash leaves motorway closed to traffic for 12 hours between Hungerford and Swindon

The M4 motorway has reopened after being closed near the Berkshire/Wiltshire border for more than 12 hours following a 'serious' crash on Sunday night (December 19).

The westbound carriageway was shut to traffic between Junction 14 for Hungerford and Junction 15 for Swindon.

Emergency services were called at around 11pm, with the road reopening by 12.10pm on Monday (December 20).

Two vehicles are involved and a diversion route was put in place.

A National Highways spokesperson said: "The M4 in Wiltshire is now open westbound between J14 Hungerford/Wantage and J15 Swindon/Marlborough following the earlier serious collision."

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: "The westbound carriageway of the M4 is now open following a serious collision last night."
